THE WILBY ALMA MATER

When we but hear the name of Wilby

We will rise and pledge anew

The measure of of all our heart's devotion

To her we will still be true

We cannot refuse her when she calls us

To work or play or sing

We'll do our best what ever befalls us

And honor to Wilby bring

Then raise your voice for Wilby

Let her name and her fame be known

For her we stand and now each hand

For her shall be proudly shown

"Fair Play" is still our motto

to "May the best man win the game"

And so we're proud to shout aloud the Wilby name

BUCK'S HILL SCHOOL

SAVED

In today's Waterbury Republican American (October 18, 2013) the effort to rename Buck's Hill School was dropped.  Board of Education member Felix Rodriguez said he had to accommodate the powerful sentiments of his neighbors in the Buck's Hill area and gained a new appreciation for the history and devotion attached to the name.  Many thanks to the Buck's Hill Community Club for attending the Board of Education meetings with old photos and school history and a special thank-you to Mr. Michael Dooling for his great editorial in the Sunday Rep-Am "A Buck's Hill School History Lesson".   We agree with Mr. Rodriguez that the time has come to name a school after an Hispanic.  Mr. Rodriguez, also a Wilby Alumni should consider a new school named after a Waterbury native  such as the late George Tirado, Sr. who taught in the Waterbury School system for over 30 years, was the athletic director at Wilby and provided sports programs for the local youths.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
I am retiring as Director, Navy Warfare Library for Submarine Learning Center and United States Navy Submarine School effective January 1, 2016. It has been an adventure for the past 15 plus years. While I can't share with you some of the changes our defense system has employed during that time, be assured that those who command our submarines and those who run the day to day operations of those boats as we call them, are still the finest in the world. While at Wilby, I didn't mesh with most simply because I had no vehicle and lived across town in the South end. I enlisted in the Marines to get out of Waterbury. Such a long time ago. I wish each of you joy and comfort in your lives, with good health and enough to get by. Be at peace with yourself, and with others. God Bless, Joe
